Teaching & Learning
Rationale
I have learned a lot recently about lessons plans, making lesson plans, and how integrating other course contents or subjects enhances your student's classroom experience.
With each course I have taken, I have accumulated many diverse teaching strategies that will benefit my future classroom. Here I have included different lesson plans, assessments, and projects I have created throughout this year to reflect my overall understanding of the work that was asked of me.
Lesson Plans Used for PE
Rationale
Through a Physical Education course, I learned more about the importance of having students participate in movement to better their experience in the classroom. My fellow classmates and I got the opportunity to create lessons plans following the standards for physical education in third grade. We then went to a local Elementary school twice a week to teach those lessons plans.Â
By the end of the semester, we changed our lessons plans from focussing on physical standards to relevant standards in the classroom. In these we integrated physical activities to get the students out of their seats and moving. I have included an example of both of these types of lesson plans here.
Letterbox Lesson
Rationale
I took a Phonics and Literacy class this semester that allowed me and my classmates to tutor first graders in different phonics lessons. Going into each session with my student, we had to come prepared with what we called them, Letterbox lessons. These lessons taught the student new vowel concepts and how to properly decode these vowels in different words. At the end of each lesson we were asked to write a R&P, Reflection and Plan. I have included an example of this below to show how I would reflect on my student's development and create a plan for our next session, including the letterbox lesson.
Natural Disasters: Review Day Lesson Plan
Rationale
Throughout the semester, we worked in groups to create an eight day lesson plan covering the standards we picked. My group chose a 3rd grade Science standard concerning natural disasters. Over each of the 8 days, the students get to experience a multitude of different learning styles. To complete the assignment, each person in my group created 2 days of the lesson plan. I had the last 2 days and I have included my day 7 lesson plan below.
