Rationale

During my time here at Auburn, I have taken a wide spread of classes, ranging from Literature and Geography to Technology in the Classroom. These classes both expanded my knowledge of these subjects and taught me new ideas all together.

Some of the assignments that I was required to complete in these classes were non traditional to get students more engaged in the content. This encouraged me to take my standards and make connections to the real world. I learned how to organize the information in a way that is both interesting and intriguing to the student.

A Few of My Projects

Rationale

I took a class about learning disabilities last semester and for one of our projects we were asked to take a stance in a unique way. My group chose to make an instagram account that advocated for learning disabilities. To advocate in a relatable way, we chose different well known people from current culture or history that struggle with different types of learning disabilities. We posted pictures with their faces and included quotes by them along with posts that were informative on these specific learning disabilities.

Rationale

For one of my English classes freshmen year, we were asked to write a paper on human suffering by comparing two works of literature.

"The thematic use of human suffering has been a popular choice found in literature all throughout history. The intrigue of this theme gives each work a certain sense of diversity along with a captivating hook that has been drawing in the attention of readers for centuries. Human suffering has a plethora of forms and this is clearly illustrated through the comparing of two well-known works completed by Shakespeare and Dante. Shakespeare’s tragedy, King Lear, demonstrates human suffering through the themes of negation and ill conception while Dante’s allegorical poem, Inferno, relays this element through discussing the consequences enforced on man in the afterlife."

I want to be able to use similar ideas to this as a way of integrating different works of literature, or other subjects, in my future classroom. Being able to compare and contrast different events in art, writing, history, etc. help the students think critically.
