Professionalism

Rational

I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of different people and collaborate with them on different projects and assignments. This experience has helped me to learn how to work with groups and work well in groups. Some of these experiences have challenged me to think critically, while encouraging me to think about how I will teach in my future classrooms. With all of the collaboration of old ideas and new ideas, I am being stretched and becoming eager to use these diverse teaching strategies.

Black Ants and Buddhist

Rationale

I have read a professional text called Black Ants and Buddhists. With this text and other professional texts relating to current education, my group got to part take in a weekly discussion comparing and contrasting the findings from these works with our other classmates. These discussions have also encouraged me to broaden my ideas as it relates to how I want to run my classroom, teach my students, and understand what it means to be a teacher in today's society.

Here I have included an infographic and a video my group made, they each highlight some of the main themes and ideas the author promotes throughout the text.

Current Issues in Education

Rationale

I chose to write a letter to the Board Chair of the Atlanta Public School Board of Education. I chose this action because I wanted to really just thank him for what he is pushing for in the Atlanta school system. I did not know when starting this project that I would have sided with the side I did, the public-school side of the debate, especially since I grew up my whole life attending very nice private schools in Atlanta. I got a great education and it more than prepared me for college, however, after reading through the research I now realize how much of a need there is for consistency and financial support in order to ensure the best success and future for students. I chose to write Mr. Esteves a letter to encourage him to keep fighting for this consistency in the school system. Not everyone is offered the same chance I was, and college has really made me realize this. What I have learned in college is that I really do have a passion to work for public schools because I truly do believe that everyone should have an equal chance to their own life. Mr. Esteves has not yet responded to my letter and I am not sure that he will because all in all I mainly just wanted to encourage him to press on with his fight.
